Evaluation of finished magazine

The post includes all images of my final magazine design.
My magazine uses many different conventions of what a real magazine would use. My magazine is similar to exisiting publications for example i have the mast head at the top of the page on the front , this usually always used when a magazine is created, this keeps the realism and also is dont for the reader and they like the similarities and know where to look straight away. Also like other magazines my front cover has one main picture, which then goes on to be the main story in the magazine. The picture is used is of a girl band , they would be very popular with the target audience reading my magazine. How ever the ways in which i have made my magazine to differ from others to stand out include, the style of text, the use of images on the front cover which may all appeal to a wider range of people.

My magazine represents a particular social group. You can see this straight away by looking at it, for example my use of bright colours especially more girly colours show you it is quite a girly magazine. The images are the main thing to look at on my front cover and the language is quite basic and simple, this i because my target audience are genreally of a younger age of about 11- 15 therefor i have kept it simple and fun.
I Looked at a few different publishers to see what my magazine would be part of. http://www.emap.com/ This is the website for the publishers of Smash hits magazine as this magazine is within the same genre as mine i thought it would be a suitable publisher. My magzine would be sold in most places, gor example genral shops like news agents, super markets and local shops. It has quite a large target audience and for this reason is not sold specificly in just some shops.

This is a link to my blog where i earlier spoke about target audience. My magzine is targeted mostly at teenage girls. My magzine works and fits in with this idea well. I used a large use of bright colours and images to attract the target audience. I think there is quite a few aspects of my magazine that will appeal to the target audience. For example as i earlier spoke about the use of language through out my magazine is kept simple and fun. This attracts the reader as it is not too much reader and the language used also makes the reader feel they have a personal connection to the magazine.

Main coursework- Planning & evaluation of the article

This is an example of an article from my chosen genre of magazine. It is in the form of an interview which is the same as the article i have used in my magazine. As the target audience for this magazine is of younger age the language used is not very complex and uses words that will engage the reader and make them feel like they are actually friends with the person that is being interviewd. Like my magazine girls are the main target audience so uses bright collours like pink and really enagages in what appeals to a girl for example when interviewing a boy making it feel personal to the girl like the star really likes them.

Main coursework - Photo editing

I didnt know whether or not to edit my photo's so i did a few few things on photoshop to what looked best. I removed the background and change it to the same colour as my magazine page to make it blend in and see what looked better. I used Adobe photoshop to do this.Then I used the magnetic lassoo tool to detect the edge of the photos. I then copied the cutout of my characters onto a new document. I then filled in the background with the colour that was going to match the background of my page. I didnt really do much editing which any of my other pictures.

For my magazine i took a wide range of different photo's . I made lots of differnt choices when deciding the mise-en-scene to create the final imgaes. In the end for the picture on the front cover of my magazine, i chose to go for a more homely feel for the girlband to have the pictures taken, i came to this decision as i feel it connects more to the audience and makes them feel more like the people they idolise. When it came to deciding what they shoudl wear in the images i went for a party, dressed up look with nice clothes, make up and nice hair i feel this works well as young teenage girls are intrested in make up, nice clothes and having there hair done. I think the elements included in the picture connects to the genre of the magazine as it includes girly thinks and lots of bright colours which ties in with the main theme of the magazine. I also used many other pictures throughout my magzine, on the front cover i used a picuture of 'Josh Hillman' i think this works well as young girls are intrested in him and staright away on the front cover you can see he is on it and will make people want to buy the magazine. I then used a picture of some make up and accesories this also attracts the target audience and appeals to them as its what they want to be reading about.

Main Coursework - Flat plans

This was my first idea for my front cover. I have used bright and feminine colours which conforms conventions of existing magazines. My masthead uses the font I orgianlly talked about it is bright , bold, and fun which attracts the target audiunce which appeals to a younger group of people.

My main sell is about the 'Candy Girls' which is a girl band I have invented, which is also the main image on the front cover of my magazine. I have used other sells such as top ten beauty secrets and and inside article with ' josh hillman' the the boyband heartrob, these all tie in with the theme of the magazine which appeals to the teenage girl audience.

I have used persuasive language and standout words on my magazine cover to, dramatise the stories and make the audience want to keep on reading.

For my contents page i used a big bold mast head to clearly state it is the contents page and so the audience can clearly find what there looking for without to much reading.My contents page includes a film strip of images which gives it a more fun exciting feel to it. The images in the film strip are labelled with numbers so they reader can easily find what they are looking without to much reading. The contents page of my magazine includes and editorial note from the editor of the magazine, this makes the reader feel more connected to the people writing the magazine. I have used a range of images and bright colours on my contents page to keep the on going theme of pop fun!

My design for the double page spread is all about ' Josh Hillman'. I again use bright colours and images of ' love hearts' to connect to the audience reading the magazine and give it a more personal feel using words like ' you ' this makes a connection to the reader as if 'josh hillman' is personal to them. I have the main masthead which is in large bold text so you see what its about staright away. I have a large range of images surrounding the main body texts. I also use pull quotes surrounding the texts which makes people read that and the go on to read more.
